About…

As any self-respecting artist would do, I'll start with the… it all started when my father gave me…

No ! It all started simply, when I started to get involved with photography ! It is that simple !

Phivos Palamidis in 1959

And because words are not enough as a proof, here is a photo of the future famous photographer, back in 1959 !
(For those interested, the camera in the photo is a Kodak Brownie 127, the First Model. Although the 127 film has been almost non-existent on the market, this camera stayed with me until the early 90s, when… it mysteriously disappeared!)

In the mid-70s, I started taking things seriously. I came to Paris (from Athens where I spent my early years) and enrolled in the famous Université Paris-VIII, better known as la Fac de Vincennes!

I was very lucky because at that time there was no separate photography department, there was only one that bore the title Département Audiovisuel and included everything that had to do with the image, with Cinema as its main branch. This allowed me, next to the (very good) technical training, to attend courses by several well-known Cinema theorists of the time and to get all that culture around the language of Cinema and the image in general, which is usually missing in photography schools.

Very quickly, after my studies, I began working professionally in photography, mainly in the studio, for commercial applications.

At the same time, in the mid-80s, I started teaching photography, something I continue to do to this day and which I consider particularly important, since, when you teach, you discover and learn new things yourself. Especially nowadays, with the advent of Electronic Photography, a lot of new topics have emerged, mainly in the technical field, which also open up new routes on the expressive level, something that, in the past, with Classical Photography was from very difficult to impossible.

Since this year (2026) I am celebrating 50 years of being busy with photography, most of them professionally, I decided to get involved, well… artistically !
Because, let's not forget, apart from a tool... Photography is also an Art. A Fine Art ! Even if nobody knows exactly what Art is…

My philosophy for my personal practice of photography is that
I don't take pictures, I make pictures.
As I worked in the studio with the view cameras from the very beginning, I am used to a slow way of working, taking care of the setup, the lighting, the detail. And above all, the story the photo tells. The Message !

That is what I’m trying to do here, although you may find my photos a little… strange.
Strange is the not usual, the not ‘as all’. Strange is, as old french ‘estrange’ says, the foreigner. And, what a beautiful experience is to meet foreigners ! To see difference ! To discover !
But, since I don't like to say or do the same things over and over… see for yourself !
